Smash Cut Presents milo and Safari Al with Black Atticus, soCro, and MC Vague

Here at Smash Cut Magazine, we love that rappity-schmappity, hippity-happity sound. One of our goals as a blog is to not simply comment on culture, but to help curate it, so we’ve been wanting to expand into concerts and film screenings for awhile.  It’s natural, therefore, that our first event would be part of a tour put on by one of our favorite upcoming rap artists, Milo, along with another favorite, fellow Wisconsin rapper Safari Al.

Few rappers might be able to juggle topics as diverse as Wittgenstein and Wrestlemania, but if there’s one who can, it’s Milo. Active since 2011, alternative rapper Milo has quickly made a name for himself, combining textured instrumentals with referential humor and deep introspection to create a hip-hop sound all his own. He began his career in November of 2011 with I wish my brother Rob was here, which used instrumentals from artists like Flying Lotus, Com Truise, and Gold Panda, and followed it up in early 2012 with Milo Takes Baths. This year saw his first official release on the Hellfyre Club label, the double-EP Things That Happen at Day/Things That Happen at Night, and most recently dropped the mixtape Cavalcade earlier this July. While his name might be unfamiliar to many, he’s played festivals like SXSW and Soundset and received acclaimed from publications like MTV Hive, Impose, Potholes In My Blog. If you’ve been a long time reader of this blog, you’ll definitely recognize the name, as he’s one of our favorites.

In addition to these two weirdo rap wunderkinds, we’ve added a few more regional names to the bill. We’ve invited along the beloved Knoxville rapper and slam poet Black Atticus, the Southern-class-meets-Euro-trash muzick maniac SoCro, and newcomer MC Vague. This concert will be held at Relix Variety Theatre in Knoxville, Tennessee on August 10th at 8:00 PM. There’s a high probability this will be the finest rap show East Tennessee has ever seen, so don’t miss it. Tickets are $7.50 in advance and are available for pre-order here, or $10.00 at the door.
